The Challenge
A primary care provider serving over 100,000 patients across six practices identified the need to expand clinical room capacity at two sites, requiring access to primary care utilisation funding. For investments exceeding £50,000, NHS England (NHSE) mandates the completion of a detailed estates Project Initiation Document (PID). The client’s Managing Director sought independent advisory support and expertise to ensure the PID met all NHSE requirements and could be submitted within tight deadlines.
The Approach
MIAA Solutions was engaged to provide estates-specific strategic oversight and hands-on support. Our approach included:
- Rapid assessment of the client’s readiness and identification of critical information gaps.
- Facilitating collaboration between the client team, local authorities, and suppliers to gather all necessary data and evidence.
- Applying subject matter expertise and coaching to key members of the team to ensure the PID was robust, comprehensive, and aligned with NHSE standards.
- Providing strategic guidance and escalating risks or issues to the client’s leadership as needed.
The project was delivered by a senior estates lead. We maintained proactive dialogue with the client throughout, adapting to emerging needs and ensuring transparency.
The Outcome
- Successful completion and submission of a comprehensive NHSE estates PID within the required timeframe.
- Enhanced collaboration between the client, local authorities, and suppliers.
- Identification and resolution of critical information gaps, reducing project risk.
- Strengthened client capability in estates project planning and delivery.
