The financial environment in the NHS is the most challenging we’ve seen for many years. The scale of efficiency savings required is unprecedented, and reliance on non-recurrent means to meet requirements is either unsustainable or will not meet required targets.
Identifying and delivering savings systematically and in a controlled way will support quantifying financial gaps (i.e., the difference between savings targets and deliverable savings) caused by current structural challenges across the NHS e.g., delayed discharges, which require cross-systems solutions.
This MIAA publication looks at financial efficiency and getting the basics right, it provides some practical examples to support delivery of financial efficiency as well as outlining MIAA’s support offer.
