MIAA's Catherine Watts to contribute to an NHS cyber security webinar marking International Women's Day

As part of the celebrations for International Women's Day on Friday 8th March, Catherine Watts, MIAA Principal Digital Risk Consultant is taking part in an NHS cyber security webinar panel session, titled Why we need more women in cyber security.

Catherine, a previous winner of Women in Cyber category in the national NHS Cyber Associates Network Awards, is one of a range of inspirational women working in cyber and digital roles across health and care. The panel will debate the #InvestInWomen theme and consider what more can be done to attract and retain women in the cyber profession.

It is a great opportunity to learn about the diverse cyber-related roles across health and social care and hear some incredible career journeys from colleagues working across the sector.

The panel includes:

  • Kate Thompson – Head of Operational Performance - Digital Services, Mid and South Essex University Hospitals Group
  • Niamh McKenna – Chief Information Officer, NHS Resolution
  • Katie Thorn – Project Lead, Digital Care Hub
  • Catherine Watts – Principal Digital Risk Consultant, Mersey Internal Audit Agency
  • Hilary Chan – Graduate Trainee, NHS England

This will be an interactive panel discussion with opportunities to ask questions to speakers.

Catherine stated “Although half the workforce are women, estimates put 36% of the cyber -security workforce as women in the UK. We are losing valuable talent in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. However, cyber threats continue to grow, evolve, and bring impact to all our daily lives.

"We should encourage diverse workforce talent, and including team members from varied backgrounds, views and experiences. This will deepen our discussions about technology, enrich our risk assessments, and enhance operational decision-making.”
