MIAA Senior Technology Risk Manager wins Woman in Cyber Award

Catherine Watts, Senior Technology Risk Manager won the Women in Cyber category of yesterday’s national #NHS Cyber Associates Network Awards.

Catherine commented: “It is an honour to receive this award and thank you to all the people I work with on a day-to-day basis in MIAA and across the NHS.

With varied careers opportunities available, Cyber is a rewarding career for anyone, and one that I would encourage other women to embrace.

I believe by encouraging teams with diverse skills to (re-)assess problems / opportunities, there will be the potential for novel services to emerge and benefit the NHS and its wider client base.”

Cath has spent over 30 years working in cyber, tech and IT and is an active member of several professional bodies. During the presentation, Cath was praised for her work mentoring colleagues and interns, promoting cyber careers through a request by the women’s engineering society and positive footprints for children in junior school. She took part in honorary research with LJMU and chaired sessions at their post graduate conference for several years. She also gives back to her local community by providing training and awareness to “silver surfers” in her own time.

MIAA’s Digital Director, Tony Cobain achieved Highly Commented in the Cyber Leader category at the same ceremony.

Cheshire and Merseyside Cyber Security Group, which includes individuals from MIAA on its leadership team was also shortlisted for Cyber Team of the year.

The Cyber Associates Network is made up of 2,000 members across public-sector health and care. The network is aimed at professionals with responsibility for, or a professional interest in, cyber security and provides people with opportunities to shape and influence the cyber-security landscape, by sharing best practice, lessons and advice.
