We are proud to have been shortlisted in the Chartered IIA Awards for the Outstanding Public Sector Team category for our work during the establishment of Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and closedown of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

Louise Cobain, MIAA’s Director of Assurance explained:” We assessed the impact of the NHS restructure, developed and implemented a strategy to not only support our clients but provide assurance both at a system and local level.

As the sole provider of internal audit and anti-fraud services to the 28 organisations transitioning as part of the establishment of the three North West Integrated Care Boards, we were in a unique position to share innovative insights on emerging risks, and support collaborative thinking and solutions with our clients.

We continued to provide an internal audit service that both supported individual CCG objectives and managed the transition, while establishing a system team for each of the three regions.

We worked proactively across our regions to share best practice and lessons learned. Being involved at an early stage in closedown support and ICB shadow arrangements enabled a much stronger contribution at all levels.”

The local and system level work undertaken by MIAA has enabled assurance to be provided on the effectiveness of CCG closedown and transition arrangements. This was the basis to ensure a clear and consistent approach was adopted across all 28 organisations, whilst also ensuring the approach complied with required professional standards.

Post ICB establishment, MIAA provided internal audit plans for formal endorsement by the ICB Audit Committee. These plans included the seamless and effective transfer of all outstanding internal audit responsibilities from CCGs to ICBs. We also agreed an ongoing agile work programme to support these new organisations as they mature.
