The Roots of the Nation’s Poor Health & Widening Health Inequalities

This session will address the wider social and economic factors that contribute to poor public health. It will demonstrate how current public health challenges such as health inequity, obesity, physical inactivity and poor mental health are the result of structural factors and will offer illustrative examples of how politics and economics can influence population health – for better and worse.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify how poor health and health inequalities are shaped and experienced in the UK population.
- Explore the important relationship policies have to population health and consider evidence informed strategies to create healthy environments and healthy people
